The material is with good corrosion resistance, it is not easy to be eroded by general acid and alkali water solution, and it is easy to dissolve in hydrofluoric acid and form fluorine coordination compound. At high temperature, hafnium can be directly combined with oxygen and nitrogen to form oxides and nitrides. The hafnium is relatively stable in the air, and the powdery hafnium is very easy to burn. Hafnium's thermal neutron capture section is large, and hafnium has prominent nuclear energy, which is an indispensable material for the development of atomic energy industry.
It is mainly used for the production of hafnium base alloy material, because hafnium has the properties of fast heat absorption and exothermicity (almost twice the speed as zirconium and titanium), so it can be used as the structural material of jet engine and missile. The refractory nature of hafnium makes it usable as the blade of a turbojet aircraft for the freezing point pressure jet engine. It can also be used to make valve, nozzle and other high temperature parts.
